Discovery of the most famous Grand Cru and Premier Cru vineyards and villages of Champagne around Epernay : The Côte des Blancs Grand Cru famous for its Chardonnay and the Marne Valley with its historic hillsides listed as World Heritage Site by UNESCO predominantly planted with Pinot Noir.

In Hautvillers, village called the “Cradle of Champagne”, guided tour of the Church of Dom Pérignon and the vineyard.

Discovery of the famous village and Grand Cru vineyard of Aÿ-Champagne.

Visit the production sites of two families of independent producers/growers followed by commented tastings of a selection of 6 Champagnes Grand Cru/Premier Cru, as well as the essential Champagne alcohols and aperitifs during additional tastings.

Discovery tour of the Côte des Blancs, famous for its Grand Cru Chardonnay 100% Blanc de Blancs.

Pause at the most beautiful viewpoints of Champagne and gain more understanding of vineyard management.

Commented passage through the Avenue de Champagne in Epernay called “the most expensive Avenue in the World” with its 200 million bottles in the cellars.

During this day you will discover the very famous Côte des Blancs, Kingdom of Chardonnay Grand Cru and the historic hillsides of the Marne Valley listed as World Heritage Site by UNESCO where Champagne was born.
Our discovery tour through the vineyards and villages of the Côte des Blancs passes in front of the Château de Saran, a prestigious property of the LVMH group (owner of Dom Pérignon, Veuve Clicquot, etc.) and the production site of Champagne Moët & Chandon.
A commented passage is also planned in the very famous Avenue de Champagne of Epernay, Capital of the Champagne vineyard, where the superb mansions and production buildings of the Champagne Houses Moët & Chandon, Perrier Jouët, Pol Roger, etc. are located.
Visit 2 families of independent producers/growers with an explanation of the Champagne production process, visit of the presses, wineries and cellars.
Taste many Grand cru/Premier cru Champagnes : natural Champagnes (without dosage), entra brut, old vines, vintages, aged in oak barrels, etc.
Tastings are commented with tasting advice.
In addition to the Champagnes, taste the 3 essential Champagne alcohols and aperitifs : Ratafia, Fine de la Marne and Marc de Champagne from the Goyard Distillery which is the oldest in Champagne.
The village of Aÿ-Champagne was the main center of the Champagne industry in the 16th century. The kings of France had their own wine presses here and the wines of Champagne used to be called “Wines of Aÿ”. The vineyard predominantly planted with Pinot Noir is classified as Grand Cru at the highest level of the Appellation.
On our visit to a part of this historic village and its well-known vineyard, we will discuss the vineyard management, the different grape varieties, the exceptional Terroir and sustainable viticulture.
The tour includes a stop in front of the headquarters of the famous Champagne Houses in Aÿ such as Bollinger, Deutz and Ayala.
Drive through other villages and vineyards classified Premier cru including Mareuil-sur-Aÿ where the Champagne Houses Billecart-Salmon and Philipponnat are located.
When visiting Hautvillers called the “Cradle of Champagne”, enjoy a private tour of the Church where the grave of Dom Pérignon, known as the spiritual father of Champagne, is.
In Hautvillers, we will also stop to enjoy the most magnificent panorama of Champagne overlooking the Marne Valley, the place where Dom Pérignon carried out his experiments in winemaking. It is the ideal place in the heart of the vineyard to take unforgettable photos of you and this breathtaking landscape.
For lunch, we have selected for you champagne and dining bars appreciated by the locals in order to share this convivial moment*.
On the menu, to accompany your glasses of Champagne (a bottle for 2) for example : gourmet platters of charcuterie and cheese with bread and salad, ready-made farm meals, pâtés, regional biscuits and coffee.

Transportation

From Epernay :
If you are a small private group of more than 3 people and depending on the weather/season, the vehicle may not be the electric E-Mehari red Jeep car but a Premium Minivan or Van. The electric E-Mehari will be open or not depending on the weather of the day.

From Reims :
The guided tour will start in Reims. We will also cross the Regional Natural Park of the Montagne de Reims and its magnificent forest to reach Epernay.
Depending on the weather/season, the vehicle will either be the electric E-Mehari red Jeep car, a Premium Minivan or a Van.

Departure from Reims :
• 9.30 a.m at the Reims center train station or at the TVG Reims-Bezannes station (15 min. from Reims).
• On request : other times and meeting places in Reims or in the surrounding villages*.

From Paris, direct trains will allow you to join us in Epernay or Reims. From Reims, join us also in Epernay by direct train or taxi.

  We spent an absolutely brilliant day with Emma touring the vineyards and family champagne houses, easily the best way to explore this area.  Emma was knowledgeable, super friendly, patient (we asked a lot of questions!) and explained the champagne making process and history of the region perfectly.  We visited a couple of small family houses for tastings which was a great contrast to the other visits we made to the big houses.    Highly highly recommended.

  We had an amazing day with Nina touring vineyards, unique local Champagne houses and going to a great bistro for lunch.  Nina is a very knowledgeable and fun tour guide who created an interesting itinerary for us.  We had booked and rebooked this tour throughout Covid and Isabelle was always accommodating and friendly. Our tour guide, Nina, was absolutely amazing because she speaks perfect English AND she has a winemaking background - so she was able to answer all our MILLION questions!
